Thank you all for coming. As you know, today is a big day for me and I have an announcement to make. Today, I turn 50 years old.

But that’s not the reason I’m standing here today. I’m here out of a deep and abiding love for this country, surrounded by members of my family, my daughter, Ayla, friends and supporters, to announce I am a candidate for the United States Senate.

I am a proud citizen of Massachusetts. I was raised here, went to school here, got married and started a family here. I have a deep appreciation for the history of our State, for our willingness to fight for what we believe in, for our independence of thought, and for the leadership we have shown in education, innovation, healthcare and technology…

Rep. Mike Pence Addresses the Crowd at DC 9/12 Rally

mike-penceIndiana Congressman Mike Pence delivered the following remarks to the crowd at the 9/12 Project / National Tea Party event in Washington, DC. Rep. Pence has been on a lot of Republican’s radar as a possible presidential candidate in 2012.

I am Mike Pence. I am from Indiana, and it is an honor to welcome the largest gathering of conservatives in American history to your nation’s capitol.

There are some politicians who think of you people as astroturf. Un-American. I’ve got to be honest with you, after nine years of fighting runaway spending here on this hill, you people look like the cavalry to me.

We stand together at a historic moment in the life of the conservative movement and in the life of this great country. The coming weeks and months may well set the course for this nation for a generation. How we as conservatives respond to these challenges, could determine whether America retains her place in the world as a beacon of freedom or whether we slip into the abyss that has swallowed much of Europe in an avalanche of socialism.

While some are prepared to write the obituary on capitalism and the conservative movement, I believe we are on the verge of a great American awakening. And it will begin here and begin now and begin with you.

This Administration and this Congress are getting a badly needed history lesson, starting with just what our founders meant by ‘consent of the governed.’ If silence is consent, it is now revoked. Continue reading ‘Rep. Mike Pence Addresses the Crowd at DC 9/12 Rally’

Traffic Cam Video Shows Massive 9/12 Crowd in Washington DC

This time-lapsed video shows the crowd building for the 9/12 Project march on Washington, DC, during the early afternoon today, estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands, to perhaps in the area of 1 million or more (the Metro DC Police no longer do official crowd estimates). The video shows marchers getting together, then going up Pennsylvania Avenue towards the US Capitol, in vicinity of the Federal Triangle. The classically designed Ronald Reagan Federal Building is on the right.

Testing in Progress

Types_of_nuclear_testingThe “new” OSR blog is pretty close to fully functional, so why not help us test it out a little?

[Try to] leave a comment or two. Let’s see if it treats you like a blacklisted spammer, or as an old friend. You should not have to register in order to leave a comment. Comment moderation is almost entirely automated… except when it isn’t.

Have some fun with our new super cool Ajax-powered instantaneous “live search” capability. This is something we never could have made work on our old site. On the upper-right side of the page, just “type” in something and “wait” — just like it says. Unfortunately, there still isn’t a ton of archival information to actually search through.

Sift through “older posts” … of course, right now, that means last week’s posts. In the upper-center of the page you should see the word “Older” with a few arrows. Click it and see what happens. Press “Trim” and see what it does.

We are still working on the ShareThis function at the bottom of each post. It appears to work fine with Firefox. However, with Internet Explorer, not so well. Of course, it’s almost certainly Microsoft’s fault, not ours.

Other than that, we’re still adding in things like outgoing links to other sites, and well as adding basic information about the site. Since there is still so much to do, we have to prioritize.

More to come, so stay tuned!

CNN Reporter Drowned Out by Huge 9/12 March Crowd

CNN reporter Lisa DesJardins was reporting from the 9/12 March on Washington today, where she was drowned out by the crowd who shouted, “Tell the truth,” “Glenn Beck,” and “No more lies.” The crowd was aiming their words at CNN for their biased reporting, since they did such a notoriously bad job reporting the last Tea Party there.

The reporter attempted to ask the protesters a question: “What do you think of Congressman Joe Wilson?” The crowd reacts with applause, then starts chanting, “Way to go, Joe.”

South Kingstown GOP Meeting w/ AG Candidate Erik Wallin

skgopThe next meeting of the SKGOP will be on Thursday, September 17th at Casey’s Grill and Bar in Wakefield, beginning at 7:00PM. In addition to AG candidate Erik B. Wallin, US Rep 2nd District Candidate Mark Zaccaria will be attending. Note details of the evening below. Please forward to all interested parties.

Also, look forward to a lively discussion about health care! This has been an issue that the SKGOP has paid close attention to over the past 4 years. The issue has become the proverbial and ideological straw that broke the American public’s tolerance for ever expanding government. Many that were apathetic to the process one year ago have now engaged in the public discourse. These individuals new to the process have brought energy, insight, passion, and skepticism and directed all towards our public officials in ways that few have witnessed. After the President’s speech to Congress last Wednesday, it is more important than ever to be armed with the facts about health care reforms proposed by both the left and the right.

Nationally, the GOP has introduced dozens of reform ideas that do not see the light of the day with Speaker Pelosi determining the legislative agenda and the main stream media with its own agenda. My efforts with the State of RI Health Insurance Commissioner and the Governor’s Office are largely diluted by the numerous stakeholders in the mix and a dominated General Assembly. Even the SKGOP’s efforts in town are stifled by a Town Council and School Committee dominated by the left. I will speak to these efforts and answer any questions I can. I will also need your help on this issue.

An advanced congratulations and sincere thank you to all involved in organizing the rallies occurring tomorrow in Washington DC and Providence. The 9-12 project and the affiliated Tea Party movement that have sustained since the beginning of the year are among the most encouraging developments in this off election year.
