News from Representative John Loughlin

JohnLoughlinForCongressDear Friend,

Are you ready to reclaim our government from out-of-control spending, ever escalating taxes, and a federal take over of health care? I know I am! That’s why I decided to challenge Congressman Kennedy.

I pledge to bring back responsive representation to the First Congressional District. That’s why I am hosting a Health Care Town Hall meeting.

Health Care Town Hall Meeting

Wednesday, September 30, 2009
5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Brantal’s Restaurant
91 Crandall Road
Tiverton, RI 02878

Sure, Congressman Kennedy held a forum, but it was sponsored by special interests and for special interests, public not invited. I invite all who feel they have questions, and need to get answers, to attend my meeting. After all, this is your town hall meeting. In fact, we’ll create a DVD and mail it to the Congressman’s Washington, DC office so he can see what you think about healthcare.

Wednesday also marks the end of fundraising quarter and soon after, we will report how we did. If you can make a small contribution before Wednesday on-line, we will cross that finish line very strong.

Thank you for all your support and help – together we will restore responsive leadership to the First Congressional District.

All the best,

John Loughlin

P.S. You can make a difference for our State and our Nation. Contact John at (401) 523-9700 or rep-john [at] cox [dot] net to volunteer.

RIGOP Files [Another] Ethics Complaint Against Attoney General Patrick Lynch

patrick_lynchThe state GOP has filed an ethics complaint against Atty. Gen. Patrick C. Lynch that accuses him of violating the state’s $75 gift cap by accepting a roundtrip plane ticket worth $428.50 from the National Cable and Telecommunications Association for a trip to New Orleans last year.

The complaint, filed late last week by state Republican party chairman Giovanni D. Cicione, marks the second time the state GOP has asked a state regulatory agency to call Democrat Lynch to task for his frequent out-of-state trips, and the way he has accounted for them on his public disclosure filings. Lynch has announced his intention to run for governor…

The complaint that Cicione filed with the state Ethics Commission zeroes in on a different issue: A state regulation prohibiting public officials from accepting any gift valued at more than “$25 per instance and up to $75 per year from each interested person.”…

Kennedy: People Can ‘Opt Out’ of Listing STDs, Abortions in Electronic Health Records

Patrick-KennedyRep. Patrick Kennedy Says People Can Opt Out of Listing STDs, Abortions in Gov’t-Mandated Electronic Health Records.

(CNSNews) – Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D.-R.I.) says people will be able to stop doctors from including records of sexually transmitted diseases and abortions in the new national system of Electronic Health Records that was mandated by the stimulus law enacted in February.

The law says that doctors, hospitals and other health care providers must create an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for every American by 2014 or else face deductions in their Medicare payments. The EHRs are supposed to be integrated into a national health care IT system where health-care providers nationwide as well as the government would have the ability to access them when authorized.

“This is totally going to be up to the individual,” Kennedy told CNSNews.com when specifically asked if these EHRs would include any STDs or abortions in a person’s medical history…
