Gird your loins and guard your pocketbooks: the RI General Assembly is coming back for a special “two day” session beginning on Wednesday, October 28th! There’s no doubt that they will be up to their old shenanigans of protecting the special interests and raising your taxes.
The union leadership and paid lobbyists will be there to protect the status quo. Please take the time to make YOUR VOICE HEARD. Make no mistake, If We the People Don’t Show Up, Our Taxes Will Go Up!
What: Welcome Back Tea Party
When: Wednesday, October 28th
Time: 3:30PM – 5:30PM
Where: Rhode Island State House (Smith Street/Main Entrance)
We will have a Press Conference during the rally with other state and local reform groups opposing binding arbitration. We will also provide EVERY legislator with a binder of resolutions from over 40 groups opposing this measure. This bill MUST be defeated.
Bring your signs and invite your friends. Hey, it’s Halloween week so feel free to dress in costume (kids too!) to make your statement! Let’s have fun and let the General Assembly know that we will hold them accountable for their actions.

Gio Cicione: A Quick Note
A quick note today to draw your attention to two outstanding pieces of news.
The first, just announced this afternoon, is that State Education Commissioner Deborah Gist has just taken the bold, dramatic, and important move of putting an end to union seniority rules in our schools (http://newsblog.projo.com/2009/10/gist-orders-districts-to-aboli.html). What a great message that the children we teach are actually more important than the union bosses wrangling! (And those of you involved in the platform committee will note that this very issue has been a point of discussion for our education plank.)
The second item is an article (http://www.riponsociety.org/forum409h.htm) by Governor Carcieri that talks about the dramatic changes that his administration has worked on over the last seven years. The Governor is not by nature a self promoter, and while that’s refreshing to see in a politician, it’s also important to remind ourselves that a strong Republican Governor can have a real impact. Take a good look at the real reform he outlines, and then imagine how bad things would be if he hadn’t fought tooth and nail for all of us for the last seven years.
I’m proud to say that Republicans in Rhode Island continue to punch above their weight. I take news like this as a sign that we need to ‘bulk up’ (forgive the bad sports analogy) and do even more to support or Republican officials and candidates. Imagine the good we could do with even half the resources of the bad guys!
That being said, enjoy your weekend, stay dry, and give some thought as to what you can do to help us with the hard work of making Rhode Island great again!
Sincerely,
Gio
