An article in The Hill cites certain liberals who have been repeating promises that Senator Harry Reid has said Lieberman has made, not kill the bill.
On the other hand, Senator Lieberman’s spokesperson has been very clear on this point, as The Hill article states:
“Lieberman’s spokesman said Monday that nothing has changed from last week, when the senator said he would support calling up the bill but would block a final vote.
“Sen. Lieberman has made it clear that he will vote for the motion to proceed to the healthcare bill but will oppose cloture on a final bill if it contains a public option because he believes that it would worsen our national debt problem,” said Lieberman aide Marshall Wittmann.”…

News Release: Rhode Island Tea Party
If you were watching television on Tuesday night as the election returns came in showing Republicans capturing the governorships of Virginia and New Jersey, you probably missed seeing the “biggest losers” of the evening. You may have caught the concession speech of Creigh Deeds, who ran 12% behind Barack Obama’s winning percentage of the vote in Virginia, and that of Jon Corzine who, after spending over $100 million of his own money on three campaigns, ran 13% behind Obama’s winning percentage in New Jersey and got evicted from Drumthwacket, the governor’s mansion in Princeton.
But you missed seeing the guy who may have been the biggest loser of all — a man who according to recently released White House logs has been a guest in the White House 22 times since Barack Obama became president, more than any other single individual.
That man is Andy Stern, who has boasted that the Service Employees International Union, which he heads, ponied up something like $60 million for Barack Obama and other Democrats in the 2008 campaign cycle. Altogether, Mr. Stern and other labor union leaders reportedly gave Democrats some $400 million last year…

A note from Sarah Palin on tonight’s victories:
Congratulations to the new Governors-Elect of Virginia and New Jersey! I’d also like to offer a special word of support to the new Lieutenant Governor-Elect of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno, the first woman to hold that office.
Of course, the real victors in this election are the ordinary men and women who voted for positive change and a return to fiscal sanity. Your voices have been heard.
The race for New York’s 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010. The issues of this election have always centered on the economy – on the need for fiscal restraint, smaller government, and policies that encourage jobs. In 2010, these issues will be even more crucial to the electorate. I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.
To the tireless grassroots patriots who worked so hard in that race and to future citizen-candidates like Doug, please remember Reagan’s words of encouragement after his defeat in 1976:
“The cause goes on. Don’t get cynical because look at yourselves and what you were willing to do, and recognize that there are millions and millions of Americans out there that want what you want, that want it to be that way, that want it to be a shining city on a hill.”
The cause goes on.

The following is from Conservative Party congressional candidate Doug Hoffman (NY-23). It’s reminiscent of Reagan, circa 1976:
America has changed, and you have helped. Although we did not succeed in winning this election, we have succeeded in making sure political parties and special interests no longer take the people for granted. I believe we have sent a powerful message and laid the groundwork for future conservative campaigns.
I congratulate Bill Owens on a hard won victory. In our tradition of free elections, our country continues. And although Bill Owens has won, I believe America is turning the page to a new dawn.
The ideas of freedom, sound fiscal management and citizen government have sprung back into our consciousness. Our founding fathers would be proud of New York 23. It was here that our principles, those that have been the foundation of our nation, came back to life with a vengeance. And it was here that the people rose up against the political bosses who tried to impose their will. It was here that people reached out to control their own destinies again.
Despite the election results, I am optimistic for our future, because now I know that I am not alone in wanting to repair our great nation. Throughout this campaign I have been inspired by the outpouring of support and the intensity of that support.
I’ve met many different people in this campaign, from many walks of life and many professions; each with a different personal story to share. Yet we are all united in the belief that by participating in democracy, we could inspire change.
I urge that no one feel defeated, for this was only one of many elections. We came close, we put our agenda in front of the nation and the nation took notice. The worse thing we could do now, is not continue forward. Next year there are other elections and other candidates who have drawn inspiration from our efforts.
I would like to thank all of you who placed your faith in me, who worked tirelessly and shared your enthusiasm with those around you. You are all patriots, you have all stood up for your country and I am honored to stand among you.
It wasn’t terribly surprising that the Republican candidate in this race won, but the margin of victory was quite astonishing, considering that President Obama won Virginia just last year.
The gubernatorial results in the states of Virginia and even New Jersey have been cited by some as indicative of the results of mid-term congressional race going back to the mid-1960s. We’ll see. It’s certainly not bad news!
Here is Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell giving his victory speech!
Remember, the Republicans really aren’t in control of whether a health care bill of some sort passes. The Democrats could do it alone. It’s all up to them, and whether or not they want to risk sticking their heads out heading into an election year.
Senior Congressional Democrats say reform before end of year is highly unlikely. Senior Congressional Democrats told ABC News today it is highly unlikely that a health care reform bill will be completed this year, just a week after President Barack Obama declared he was “absolutely confident” he’ll be able to sign one by then.
“Getting this done by the by the end of the year is a no-go,” a senior Democratic leadership aide told ABC News. Two other key Congressional Democrats also told ABC News the same thing.
This may come as an unwelcome surprise for the White House, where officials from the president on down have repeatedly said the health care bill would be signed into law by the end of the year…

Republican Resurgency: NJ + VA Taken, CR’s take action
With election momentum building for the Republican Party and the conservative movement more inflamed than ever with the power of the Tea Party’s and a massive growth in College Republican involvement 2010 will mark a massive comeback predicated. Republicans nationally and here in Rhode Island, retaining our core beliefs in small government, civil rights and a moral society, will attract voters who can no longer suffer the fiscal insanity or moral depravity advocated by the Democrats in Washington and in Providence. The CRFRI and I extend special recognition to the College Republicans of New Jersey, Virginia and those from all states who participated in the College Republican National Committee’s deployment efforts. These efforts, particularly in New Jersey, certainly contributed substantially to Republican victory and inspire College Republicans everywhere to prepare for a massive political effort in 2010. Rhode Island will be no exception as we orchestrate an unprecedented youth volunteer effort to achieve victories throughout the northeast. I congratulate the Republican candidates, all who were involved in their campaigns and all who share our values on these historic victories.
Regards,
Jon Conradi
Chairman, College Republican Federation of Rhode Island
