Senator Says Its Okay To Force Pro-Lifers to Pay for Abortions

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said that it is “morally correct” for pro-life taxpayers to be forced to pay for abortions. Yes, you read that correctly. She said people are asked to pay for many things they don’t agree with, and abortion should be no exception.

Of course, if you believe that the unborn are living human beings, then it stands to reason that you don’t want to pay for the destruction of an innocent human life, right?

Breaking News: Proposed 2010 RI Republican Party Platform Defeated (For Now)

repbookFollowing a contentious meeting of the RIGOP Platform Committee on Tuesday evening, it narrowly recommended [on a 9 to 8 vote] approval of a platform for the 2010 election cycle with some amendments.

The amendments which were approved concerned the party’s position on legislative term limits, as well as deep water port development at Quonset. A plank concerning support for Voter Initiative was defeated on a slim vote (not on it’s merits, but because no language to support the plank had been developed for consideration). The platform committee then referred the amended draft platform to the full Rhode Island Republican State Central Committee for consideration. Then the fun began…

During the “new business” portion of the meeting, once the platform committee report had been read, a motion was made to adopt the platform committee’s report [which would have had the effect of approving the report as the new party platform].

There was immediately a “motion to recommit” made from the floor [by RIRA President Ray McKay] and a second. If passed, that motion would have had the effect of sending the report back to the committee where it originated from. It’s a very standard parliamentary procedure motion, usually used in order to test levels of support in a body on the main motion.

After substantial debate on the motion, in which a majority of the speakers on the floor spoke against passage of the platform that had been submitted to them, the question was called and the full committee voted to end debate on the motion. By a show of hands, much to our pleasure and frankly, surprise, the Rhode Island Republican State Central Committee voted “to adopt the motion to recommit.”

Therefore, the draft platform which has been circulated within the last few weeks was defeated. The platform committee was instructed to meet again as soon as possible to make substantial changes in order to improve the existing document. It is anticipated that there will be another vote on the party platform at the next RIGOP meeting which is scheduled for early February.

It was a very good “win” for the grassroots of the party. Indeed, very tea party-esque!
