Newport GOP 2010 Breakout Meeting | February 27

Welcome to the first City of Newport Republican Committee meeting of 2010. Aside from a couple of cocktails and laughs, we will discuss the organizational structure of the Newport GOP and listen to neighboring committee chairs as they lend advice and support. Together we will build a road map of the Newport GOP.

To build the strongest and most effective Republican Committee, we will take a look at the work ahead. We will discuss the responsibilities of leadership positions. No free ride here, we need people who are willing to get some skin in the game.

Did you know that over 25 Rhode Islanders helped elect Scott Brown? Imagine what we can do together in Newport. The RIGOP and great candidates like Erik Wallin need support and our committee is going to deliver. You can count on that.

Invite you friends, buddies and pals. This is the start of a fun ride…

Rhode Island Statewide Coalition Winter Meeting | Saturday

RISC WINTER MEETING, THIS SATURDAY, 2/27/10 AT NEWPORT HYATT HOTEL TO HIGHLIGHT STATE FISCAL CRISIS and RISC BUSINESS NETWORK

The Annual Winter Meeting of the state’s largest taxpayer and business advocate organization, the RI Statewide Coalition (RISC) is being held this Saturday, February 27th, at 9:00 AM at the Hyatt, Goat Island, Newport.

Featured speakers for the event will be John DePetro, host of the WPRO Morning News, and Jeff Deckman, Consultant and Organizer for the new RISC Business Network. (RBN)

The Chairman of RISC is encouraging all RISC members and anyone interested in reform of the state’s tax, budget and business sector problems to attend.

“RISC urges all Rhode Islanders who recognize the crisis that is now confronting both taxpayers and struggling business owners in this state to attend our Winter Meeting,” says Harry Staley.

“ Rhode Island’s state and local budgets are in crisis, the business sector is drowning, and as we saw just days ago, the public school system is erupting because the overspending is not getting results. RISC is giving a voice to those of us who care deeply about these problems and we urge people to join us, hear about solutions and attend our Winter Meeting.”

For more information or to register to attend, call 401.213.6316 or go to http://www.statewidecoalition.com.

37th Providence Newspaper Guild Follies | February 26

Update: The RIRA’s supply of tickets for the Providence Newspaper Guild Follies is completely sold out. If you want a ticket, you’re on your own. You can try calling the Guild office at 401-421-9466, but no guarantees. You’ll probably end up in the nose-bleed section, if you get in at all.

For quite a few years now, the Rhode Island Republican Assembly has had reserved tables for Republicans at the annual Providence Newspaper Guild Follies. Assuming that The Providence Journal doesn’t shutter its doors by February 26th (cross your fingers!), this year will be no exception!

Because this great event has long-since outgrown Rhode Island’s ability to contain it, and sales tax is still cheaper in Massachusetts, the Follies will be held on Friday, February 26th at 7:00 PM just over the border at the [in]famous Venus de Milo Restaurant , 75 Grand Army Highway (Route 6) in Swansea, MA.

This popular dinner and political satire show is attended by every politician, activist, and news media personality in Rhode Island’s political scene, for a total of about 1,250 people. Tickets are $60.00/person. A spectacular buffet dinner is included, and of course, the big show. So far, RIRA has reserved two tables (20 seats), with the option of reserving more if there is additional demand.

Please note that since this is a union-held event, the audience does tend to skew Democratic / leftist, so if you are a Republican / conservative and want to sit with us (for your own safety), please contact RIRA President Raymond McKay right away at president [at] ri-ra [dot] org . These tickets are definitely going fast, so do not wait, as this event always sells out. You do not want to end up on the dreaded waiting list!
