Tuesday’s Biggest Loser: The Union Agenda

seiu-thugsIf you were watching television on Tuesday night as the election returns came in showing Republicans capturing the governorships of Virginia and New Jersey, you probably missed seeing the “biggest losers” of the evening. You may have caught the concession speech of Creigh Deeds, who ran 12% behind Barack Obama’s winning percentage of the vote in Virginia, and that of Jon Corzine who, after spending over $100 million of his own money on three campaigns, ran 13% behind Obama’s winning percentage in New Jersey and got evicted from Drumthwacket, the governor’s mansion in Princeton.

But you missed seeing the guy who may have been the biggest loser of all — a man who according to recently released White House logs has been a guest in the White House 22 times since Barack Obama became president, more than any other single individual.

That man is Andy Stern, who has boasted that the Service Employees International Union, which he heads, ponied up something like $60 million for Barack Obama and other Democrats in the 2008 campaign cycle. Altogether, Mr. Stern and other labor union leaders reportedly gave Democrats some $400 million last year…

Sarah Palin: ‘A Victory for Common Sense and Fiscal Sanity’

palinA note from Sarah Palin on tonight’s victories:

Congratulations to the new Governors-Elect of Virginia and New Jersey! I’d also like to offer a special word of support to the new Lieutenant Governor-Elect of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno, the first woman to hold that office.

Of course, the real victors in this election are the ordinary men and women who voted for positive change and a return to fiscal sanity. Your voices have been heard.

The race for New York’s 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010. The issues of this election have always centered on the economy – on the need for fiscal restraint, smaller government, and policies that encourage jobs. In 2010, these issues will be even more crucial to the electorate. I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.

To the tireless grassroots patriots who worked so hard in that race and to future citizen-candidates like Doug, please remember Reagan’s words of encouragement after his defeat in 1976:

“The cause goes on. Don’t get cynical because look at yourselves and what you were willing to do, and recognize that there are millions and millions of Americans out there that want what you want, that want it to be that way, that want it to be a shining city on a hill.”

The cause goes on.

Doug Hoffman Concedes; Gives Great Concession Speech

Doug-HoffmanThe following is from Conservative Party congressional candidate Doug Hoffman (NY-23). It’s reminiscent of Reagan, circa 1976:

America has changed, and you have helped. Although we did not succeed in winning this election, we have succeeded in making sure political parties and special interests no longer take the people for granted. I believe we have sent a powerful message and laid the groundwork for future conservative campaigns.

I congratulate Bill Owens on a hard won victory. In our tradition of free elections, our country continues. And although Bill Owens has won, I believe America is turning the page to a new dawn.

The ideas of freedom, sound fiscal management and citizen government have sprung back into our consciousness. Our founding fathers would be proud of New York 23. It was here that our principles, those that have been the foundation of our nation, came back to life with a vengeance. And it was here that the people rose up against the political bosses who tried to impose their will. It was here that people reached out to control their own destinies again.

Despite the election results, I am optimistic for our future, because now I know that I am not alone in wanting to repair our great nation. Throughout this campaign I have been inspired by the outpouring of support and the intensity of that support.

I’ve met many different people in this campaign, from many walks of life and many professions; each with a different personal story to share. Yet we are all united in the belief that by participating in democracy, we could inspire change.

I urge that no one feel defeated, for this was only one of many elections. We came close, we put our agenda in front of the nation and the nation took notice. The worse thing we could do now, is not continue forward. Next year there are other elections and other candidates who have drawn inspiration from our efforts.

I would like to thank all of you who placed your faith in me, who worked tirelessly and shared your enthusiasm with those around you. You are all patriots, you have all stood up for your country and I am honored to stand among you.

Republicans Sweep Virginia! Bob McDonnell Wins by 18%!

elephant-donkeyIt wasn’t terribly surprising that the Republican candidate in this race won, but the margin of victory was quite astonishing, considering that President Obama won Virginia just last year.

The gubernatorial results in the states of Virginia and even New Jersey have been cited by some as indicative of the results of mid-term congressional race going back to the mid-1960s. We’ll see. It’s certainly not bad news!

Here is Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell giving his victory speech!

200px-RepublicanlogoWhat a year it has been for the City of East Providence — and especially for the East Providence GOP! You know what they’ve been up to this year — and so do the powerful special interests who are working hard to stop real change, in order to preserve the status quo which has for so long benefited them. On Thursday, November 5th, the East Providence Republican Party will hold what just may be its biggest and best fundraising event ever. We want YOU to be a part of the excitement!

If they don’t succeed, YOUR city or town will be next.

The East Providence Republican City Committee cordially invites all reform-minded citizens to attend its upcoming “Fantastic Fall Fundraiser,” which will be held on Thursday, November 5th, 2009, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 50 Crescent View Avenue in Riverside, from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Congressman Mike Pence: ‘Let Your Voice Be Heard’

Congressman Mike Pence released the following video, entitled “Let Your Voice Be Heard,” urging all Americans to rise up and let their voices be heard in regard to the Pelosi health care plan. He may not be the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan, but in this video, he’s sounding darn close. This is a very, very good video. Share it.

Moe Green Offers Treats, Not Tricks, To District 10 Voters

Moe_GreenMaurice “Moe” Green, Republican candidate for State Representative in the November 10 special election in Providence’s House District 10, delivered a Halloween flyer to all 5,000 households in the District, offering “treats, not tricks” if he is elected.

It states, “Will you get tricks or treats on November 10? Give yourself a treat! Elect Moe Green State Representative.” This is accompanied by a picture of Green, and a pumpkin labeled “Honest Leadership”.

The flyer continues, “Elect the other candidates, and you might get the same old tricks!”. This is followed by 3 cartoons: 3 witches stirring a cauldron labeled “Politics As Usual”; a ghost labeled “Bad Schools”; and a black cat behind a pot labeled “Tax And Spend”.

The back side of the flyer tells about Green signing the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge”, which promises that “I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to raise taxes”. There is a picture of Green signing the “Pledge” in front of Grover Norquist, national President of Americans For Tax Reform.

Palin backs Conservative Doug Hoffman (over RINO) in NY-23

Palin WinkFormer Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin on Thursday endorsed Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman over (ACORN loving, Über-RINO) Dede Scozzafava, the Republican Party’s choice(*), in the special election for New York’s 23rd congressional district.

“The people of the 23rd Congressional District of New York are ready to shake things up, and Doug Hoffman is coming on strong as Election Day approaches!…”

In her statement, the GOP’s 2008 vice-presidential nominee sounded a clear anti-party tone.

“Best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine,” Palin wrote. “Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.”…

(*) Since this is a Special Election, there was no primary or caucus to determine the “Republican” nominee in this race. The choice of ultra-liberal RINO, Dede Scozzafava, was made by NY Republican Party leadership. Bad move.
