East Providence GOP Fantastic Fall Fundraiser | November 5

200px-RepublicanlogoCOME TO THE EAST PROVIDENCE GOP’s “FANTASTIC FALL FUNDRAISER”!

What a year it has been for the City of East Providence — and especially for the East Providence GOP! You know what they’ve been up to this year — and so do the powerful special interests who are working hard to stop real change, in order to preserve the status quo which has for so long benefited them. Two weeks from today — on November 5th — the East Providence Republican Party will hold what just may be its biggest and best fundraising event ever. We want YOU to be a part of the excitement!

We fully expect East Providence to be on the frontlines of the Battle for Rhode Island in 2010. Between now and then, the East Providence GOP will be waging an unprecedented effort to raise money, to recruit and support quality candidates for all state and local offices. However, to do that, they will need significant financial support from people living outside of East Providence. You may say, “Why should I help Republicans in a city that I don’t live in?” The answer: Unlike in Las Vegas, what happens in East Providence isn’t going to stay in East Providence. If they don’t succeed, YOUR city or town will be next.

The East Providence Republican City Committee cordially invites all reform-minded citizens to attend its upcoming “Fantastic Fall Fundraiser,” which will be held on Thursday, November 5th, 2009, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 50 Crescent View Avenue in Riverside, from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

The event will feature catered Heavy Hors d’Oeuvres with a Cash Bar, a great Silent Auction, and “The Very First” 2012 Presidential Straw Poll (vote rigging is encouraged), as well as a top-notch Speaking Program.

Confirmed guest speakers currently include:

Governor Donald L. Carcieri
Cranston Mayor Allan Fung
Warwick Mayor Scott Avedesian
East Providence Assistant Mayor Robert Cusack
East Providence School Committee Vice-Chair Steven Santos
R.I. Republican Party Chairman Giovanni Cicione
R.I. Congressional candidate John Loughlin (Dist. 1)
R.I. Congressional candidate Mark Zaccaria (Dist. 2)
R.I. Attorney General candidate Erik Wallin
R.I. Tea Party Founder Colleen Conley

… and there might be a few surprises, too!

Tickets for this great event are affordably priced at $25.00 per Person or $40.00 per Couple. R.I. Young Republicans may attend for only $15.00. Children of any age are FREE with a paying adult. Of course, if it is within your ability to do so, please consider giving an additional personal contribution, up to the state maximum (see below).

P.S. We want to remind you that there will be a Special Election in House District 62 to replace State Rep. Betsy Dennigan, who recently resigned that seat. The district includes parts of East Providence and Pawtucket. The Special Election is scheduled to be held on December 29th, 2009. The Republican candidate for that race is Thomas Clupny of Rumford. Your early support will greatly aid our efforts to win this seat for the GOP!

We really hope to see you on November 5th (or at minimum, your generous contribution!). Thank you very much!

Four Candidates Declare for House Dist. 62 Special Election

As of 4:00 PM today, there were 1 Democrat, 2 Independents, and 1 Republican candidate who had declared their candidacies for the House District 62 Special Election. The Republican candidate will be Tom Clupny of Rumford (who incidentally, is a neighbor of the recently resigned Rep. Betsy Dennigan). Because only 1 candidate from each party declared, there will not be a need for a November 24th primary (which is fine by us!). The election will be on December 29th.

The following is from the RI Secretary of State’s office:

Four candidates officially filed to run for Elizabeth Dennigan’s former House seat by today’s 4 p.m. deadline.

Filing for the House District 62 race are Democrat Mary Duffy Messier of Pawtucket, independents Brian Cinq-Mars of Pawtucket and Paul Dinsmore of East Providence, who challenged Dennigan as a Republican in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008; and Republican Thomas Clupny of East Providence.

State law gave the contenders until this afternoon to submit official Declarations of Candidacy. In order to file, the candidates had to be registered voters of the district, which stretches along the banks of the Seekonk River in East Providence and Pawtucket.

The next step begins this Tuesday, when the contenders can begin asking House District 62 voters to sign their nomination papers. The documents– including the signatures of at least 50 local voters – must be submitted to the local boards of canvassers by Oct. 27.

It won’t be known which candidates will qualify for the ballot until our office and the East Providence and Pawtucket boards of canvassers have certified that the contenders submitted the required 50 valid signatures. The certification of signatures generally takes several days.

The special election became necessary when Dennigan resigned Oct. 1. While there will be no primary, there are several other crucial dates leading up to the Dec. 29 election. Nov. 28 is the deadline for registering to vote and mail ballots must be requested by Dec. 8.

Update on Moe Green, GOP Candidate In Special Election

Moe_GreenOn November 10th, we will get our first chance to show that voters are finally ready for some real change.

Maurice “Mo” Green is the Republican candidate for State Representative in House District 10, in the November 10 special election to replace the late Rep. Thomas Slater. District 10 is on the south side of Providence, between Roger Williams Park and the Cranston Street Armory, and between the Cranston line and Trinity Square. It includes the Reservoir Triangle, South Elmwood & West End neighborhoods.

If you would like to help make phone calls or pass out flyers, contact Moe’s campaign manager Dave Talan at 941-3662 (DaveTalan [at] aol [dot] com). On October 6, Moe greeted voters at the Democratic primary after they had finished voting, while volunteers handed out his flyers. On October 10, volunteers delivered flyers to all 5,000 households in the District. (There will be additional lit drops on Saturday mornings October 24 & November 7).

Come to Moe’s low-cost fundraiser on Thursday, October 22 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Ada’s Creations on Broad Street. There will be several big-name guests.

Your campaign donations would be most welcome. Send a check to :

RIYRRI Young Republicans:

And it all begins Saturday morning…

By now you may have heard…There will be a VERY WINNABLE special election held in November for the House Seat representing District 10. The RIGOP candidate is Moe Green, a homicide detective for the Providence Police Department.

A handful of YRs have already volunteered to meet up with Mr. Green (R!) at the Oasis Grill at 10:00am at 220 Broad St in Providence to conduct his first LIT DROP. It shouldn’t take more than two hours for us to drop off his election fliers to all 5000 homes in his District. Then we can all go back to bed.

Note: We will be doing 2 additional lit drops on Oct 24 and Nov 7.

Come out and meet Mr. Green, and help get him into the State House. I Hope to see some of you tomorrow morning!

Today is Primary Day for House Dist. 10 Special Election

100609primaryYes, I’m well aware that virtually no one will be voting in it. If turnout somehow breaks a thousand, consider me stunned.

On Tuesday, from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., there will be a 7-way Democratic primary between candidates: Scott Slater, Rafael A. Colon Jr., John M. Kelly, Ana B. Quezada, Raymond A. Tomasso, Jenny L. Jourdain, and Ramon A. Perez.

Scott Slater and John Kelly are the likely two front runners. The first, based on the name recognition of his late father whom he seeks to replace; and the latter, through his involvement with Meeting Street School and Mayor Cicilline’s campaigns.

The winner of today’s Democratic primary will face Republican candidate Maurice “Moe” Green and 3 independent candidates: Wilbur W. Jennings Jr., Maryelyn Alba-Acevedo, and John P. Tomasso in the November special election.

I thought this advertisement by the Providence Board of Canvassars was amusing. It’s written in such archaic langauge, that it might be difficult for its intended audience to understand.

…Wherefore, the qualified electors of the City of Providence who are further qualified to vote at said Primary are hereby notified and warned to assemble in the tenth Representative District meeting on the sixth day of October 2009…
