Why Gina Raimondo Should Not Be RI Treasurer

This is a commercial from the King for Treasurer campaign about Gina Raimondo’s deceptions and distortions about her own business record.

Gina was given $6 million dollars of Rhode Island taxpayers money. She invested nearly all of it in out of state companies (except for one company). She says she created over 1000 jobs, only about 10 are actually in Rhode Island. And, none of the companies she invested our money in have even made a profit.

If we can’t trust her with $6 million dollars, how can we trust her with $7 billion dollars?

Mayor Cicilline, Where’s the Pension Money?

The following is an open letter from GOP congressional candidate State Rep. John Loughlin to Providence Mayor Cicilline, on the shaky state of Providence’s finances.

On a related note, the Providence Firefighters Union filed suit against the City of Providence earlier today, demanding that the city meet its pension payment obligations.

Dear Mayor Cicilline:

I am writing to you today because it appears the city of Providence is bankrupt or close to it and that you are deliberately hiding this fact from the people of Rhode Island. I am concerned that for political reasons your campaign for Congress is causing you to act in such a way as to conceal the budget problems facing the city of Providence, making them worse in the process.

According to City Auditor James Lombardi, you have refused his requests for financial information for the past six months. As a result, he has had to resort to filing requests under the State Access to Public Records Act (APRA). This is an extraordinary set of circumstances because as you know the good functioning of government depends on transparency and accountability. By not making information available when requested, you are acting in a manner that is antithetical to good government.

What little information the Auditor has obtained causes him grave concern. Specifically, he said that $18 million of the regularly scheduled pension payment of $38 million for the last fiscal year was never paid. He also said the city’s reserve contingency funds account – the so-called “rainy day fund” – went from having a balance of $14.4 million on July 1, 2009 (the start of the last fiscal year) to NEGATIVE $187,736 on June 30, 2010 (the end of the last fiscal year).

Based on this alarming information, I am concerned that the city cannot make its way through the current fiscal year without a tax increase, severe budget cuts, or both. I am calling on you to immediately disclose to the taxpayers of Providence and the people of Rhode Island the full extent of the city’s current financial situation by releasing to the Auditor’s Office and the public at large a balance sheet and a cash flow analysis showing the current state of the city’s finances.

It is time for you to set aside concerns about how the city’s deteriorating fiscal condition will affect your campaign for Congress. You need to set aside concerns about your political career and level with the people of Rhode Island.

Sincerely,

John Loughlin

State Representative John J. Loughlin II
RI House Minority Whip
Candidate for US Congress, RI -01

Must-See Scott Brown video!

In less than a week, voters in Rhode Island’s first district will head to the polls and decide who will represent them in Congress. My campaign is going full tilt — the phones are ringing off the hook, we can’t keep yard signs in stock, and our volunteers are knocking on doors and making thousands of calls.

We’re still feeling the “bounce” off of a wonderful day with Senator Brown yesterday. If you missed the event, here’s a short video that you will enjoy.

Absentee and Early Voting Continue to Trend GOP

Absentee and early voting returns across the country so far in 2010 indicate that the composition of the electorate will be dramatically different than it was in 2008. The Republican National Committee, working with state Republican parties, has placed a strong emphasis this year on encouraging presidential-year-only Republicans to cast their votes by absentee ballot or early-in -person through both paid and volunteer voter contact. To date, the RNC has mailed 7.4 million absentee ballot application forms to voters in competitive congressional districts and placed 6 million paid phone calls to low- and mid-propensity recipients to encourage them to vote…

RI Governors Race a Virtual Tie

Friends,

With only a week left until the election we need your help more than ever. I am in a virtual three-way tie against my opponents and I need the help of our volunteer base to pull me across the finish line. As our opponents continue to make personal attacks against each other and national political figures, I am sticking to my message of cutting taxes, reducing spending and creating jobs. Rhode Island doesn’t need gimmicks or promises from career politicians, what we need are results.

I promise you that I will continue to fight the good fight and show Rhode Islanders that I am the only candidate who can turn Rhode Island around. I am NOT running for Governor for the recognition or to fulfill a legacy. Rhode Island needs strong leadership more than ever and I have proven time and time again that I can handle the responsibilities that come with the position.

When elected I will be your lobbyist. I do not owe any favors to special interest groups or career politicians. Rhode Island continues to decline because of the policies enacted by my opponents. They have been part of the system for years and their decisions continue to hurt Rhode Island.

With your help we will win next week. Make sure to get out and vote on November 2nd. Tell your friends, neighbors and coworkers that every vote will count in this election. If you are interested in helping please call the campaign office and ask for Brian. Any amount of time you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Onward to Victory,

John Robitaille

RI Tea Party: Mr. Kilmartin, Show Us the Millionaires

RI Tea Party Asks Mr. Kilmartin to Name the Millionaires

On October 26th, Peter Kilmartin’s campaign published a press release criticizing Erik Wallin for being endorsed by the People’s PAC of the RI Tea Party.

In response, Colleen Conley from the RI Tea Party states that Peter Kilmartin must be doing badly in the polls. Why else would he stoop to such baseless name-calling of the biggest, cleanest, grass-roots citizens’ movement in over a century? Does he feel threatened by a few thousand ordinary citizens? The statements in his press release are an insult to the intelligence of Rhode Islanders.

Of course, to Mr. Kilmartin, the consummate insider politician, restoring our state’s government to fiscal responsibility and making it accountable to the citizens would seem like a radical, right-wing policy. It is true that the RI Tea Party is extremely opposed to the political machine that has dominated our state for decades and driven Rhode Island to the brink of bankruptcy.

It is true that the Tea Party wants to reduce taxes for everyone who pays, including millionaires, as well as for small businesses, sole proprietors, farmers, and wage earners throughout the state (and the nation, too).

It’s a necessary step towards restoring health to our economy by encouraging people to succeed in their careers and businesses and create new jobs.

Since you raised the point, Mr. Kilmartin, could you please produce a list of the millionaires in the RI Tea Party, together with a list of the millionaires in the General Assembly?

The RI Tea Party also wants to reverse the intrusive domination of the state government of nearly every aspect of our local affairs. Your property taxes are so high, and rising, largely due to the mandates forced on our municipalities and school districts by the Democrats in the General Assembly, on behalf of the special interests that sponsor them.

The political machine that has driven Rhode Island into the ditch is desperate to have Mr. Kilmartin as Attorney General. As we have seen with the present Attorney General’s administration over the past eight years, the machine needs a “friend” who will refuse to investigate or prosecute official corruption. Mr. Kilmartin has been a loyal cog in that machine for years.

The Tea Party believes that Rhode Island can have honest government that truly represents our state’s hard-working citizens. All we have to do is vote for the candidates who will represent us, and keep the machine politicians away from powerful posts
