Keep the Cross in Woonsocket Rally | Wednesday

For those who may wish to attend, this is a reminder that the rally to support the cross-shaped (gasp!) World War I Memorial outside of the fire department headquarters in Woonsocket will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd beginning at 4:30pm. Arrive early.

For those of you using GPS, the address of the fire station is 5 Cumberland Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI 02895. It’s close to the Massachusetts border, too. An out-of-state militant atheist group is trying to coerce the city into removing it. We’re not going to let them!

Run for Delegate to the Republican National Convention

RUN FOR DELEGATE TO GOP NATIONAL CONVENTION

Anyone can run to be a Rhode Island Delegate to the GOP National Convention, which will be held August 27 to 30 in Tampa/St. Petersburg.

In the April 24 R.I. Presidential Primary, we will elect 8 Delegates and 8 Alternates from each of the 2 Congressional Districts in R.I. (Incidentally, for Burrillville and Providence residents, who are being moved to a different Congressional District; you will run and vote in the existing Districts, not the new gerrymandered Districts). In addition, the 3 GOP National Committee people from R.I. (Mark Zaccaria, Carol Mumford, Joe Trillo) will automatically be Delegates.

Each Presidential candidate, who gets at least 15 percent of the statewide vote, will get a proportional share of the 16 elected Delegates. Who those Delegates are will be determined by the number of votes they get, while listed under the Presidential candidate of their choice.

Candidates for Delegate will file a declaration of candidacy, with the Secretary of State, on February 22 or 23; will receive nomination papers no later than 8:30 A.M. of the following day; and will then have to turn in at least 150 valid signatures to local Town Halls by 4:00 P.M. on February 28.
Yes, you read that right. You have just 4 or 5 days to get 150 signatures. (This is down from 17 days that you had 4 years ago. Thank you, Secretary of State Ralph Mollis.).

Since it is clearly impossible for any individual to get so many signatures in such a short time, we are going to organize another team effort to get all our GOP Delegate candidates on the ballot.

We have asked Town Committees to organize signature parties, where people from that Town can come and sign 50 to 60 different papers, for every candidate (most of whom they do not even know). We realize that is asking a lot, but it is necessary to get around the outrageous obstacles that Secretary of State Mollis has put in our way, and help our fellow Republicans.

Here is what you, as a Delegate candidate, need to do.
There are 3 forms you need to fill out, in advance. They are on the Secretary of State’s web site.

* Delegate Declaration Of Candidacy Form
* Delegate Pledge Of Support Form Republican Party
* Sample Delegate Nomination Paper Release Form

Important Reminder: Turn In All GOP Nomination Papers by Thursday @ 4PM!

The deadline is quickly approaching to turn in all of the nomination papers to get the Republican candidates for president on the ballot for the April 24th presidential preference primary.

The papers must be turned in no later than this Thursday, February 2nd at 4:00 P.M. to each local Boards of Canvassers or Town Clerk’s office.

Please remember that the back side of the papers must be filled out by the person who collected the signatures, and his signature must be witnessed by a Notary Public. If you turn them in yourself, you can get them notarized in Town Hall. If you have someone else turn them in for you, they must be notarized in advance.

If you have other questions or need a notary public, please contact Dave Talan ASAP, and we will arrange to take care of this. He can be reached at 941-3662 or DaveTalan [at] aol [dot] com.

Update: Tonight’s RIGOP Meeting Has Been Postponed

Apparently, Irene was a Democrat… :)

From RIGOP Executive Director Patrick Sweeney:

The meeting of the RIGOP State Central Committee scheduled for tomorrow night, Monday, August 29, 2011, in Warwick is CANCELLED and will be rescheduled.

It is questionable whether the original venue will have power tomorrow evening. Additionally, many members of our Committee are dealing with utility outages of uncertain and varying durations, work disruptions, family issues, and clean-up work.

Thank you for your patience, we will reschedule this meeting without disrupting our goal of voting on the “Primary Election” question as soon as possible.

Thank you,

RIGOP

‘Pessimistic Conservativism’ at P.C. | Wednesday

The Providence College Republicans are bringing National Review magazine’s “resident pessimist,” John Derbyshire, to campus tonight at 7:30 pm (112 Slavin Center). This event is free and open to the public.

The German historian Oswald Spengler once famously stated that “Optimism is for cowards”.

National Review columnist John Derbyshire will be coming in to speak to the Providence College Republicans about why he believes that optimism should be reserved for the political left.

Mr. Derbyshire will be tackling many issues, all the while explaining why the right should embrace “conservative pessimism” to counter the falsehoods of our modern age.

Third Annual Tax Day Rally | Friday

The RI Tea Party will sponsor its Third Annual Tax Day Rally on April 15, 2011 from 4PM-6PM at the RI State House. Our focus this year is squarely on Governor Chafee’s outrageous budget proposal in which he plans to raise $165M by taxing broad swaths of the RI economy, including heating oil, water, myriad services. and previously exempt items. Business groups and citizens alike are invited to attend the rally to strongly encourage the General Assembly to reject this budget and instead make the spending cuts necessary to put our economy back on track.

The agenda includes several prominent representatives from the business community who will share how these new job-killing taxes will effect all Rhode Islanders. This family friendly event will also feature a live band, local musicians, activities for children, and a MUST SEE Media Moment at the 5PM and at the end of the rally. Don’t Miss This MUST ATTEND event!

The RI Tea Party is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with so many other groups and associations who will be represented at this years Rally in saying NO MORE! We are Taxed Enough Already!

What: Tax Day Rally

Date: Friday, April 15, 2011

Time: 4PM-6PM

Where: State House, city side

Parking available at Providence Place Mall and in some parking lots adjacent to the State House.
