Third Annual Tax Day Rally | Friday

The RI Tea Party will sponsor its Third Annual Tax Day Rally on April 15, 2011 from 4PM-6PM at the RI State House. Our focus this year is squarely on Governor Chafee’s outrageous budget proposal in which he plans to raise $165M by taxing broad swaths of the RI economy, including heating oil, water, myriad services. and previously exempt items. Business groups and citizens alike are invited to attend the rally to strongly encourage the General Assembly to reject this budget and instead make the spending cuts necessary to put our economy back on track.

The agenda includes several prominent representatives from the business community who will share how these new job-killing taxes will effect all Rhode Islanders. This family friendly event will also feature a live band, local musicians, activities for children, and a MUST SEE Media Moment at the 5PM and at the end of the rally. Don’t Miss This MUST ATTEND event!

The RI Tea Party is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with so many other groups and associations who will be represented at this years Rally in saying NO MORE! We are Taxed Enough Already!

Date: Friday, April 15, 2011

RI Tea Party: Mr. Kilmartin, Show Us the Millionaires

RI Tea Party Asks Mr. Kilmartin to Name the Millionaires

On October 26th, Peter Kilmartin’s campaign published a press release criticizing Erik Wallin for being endorsed by the People’s PAC of the RI Tea Party.

In response, Colleen Conley from the RI Tea Party states that Peter Kilmartin must be doing badly in the polls. Why else would he stoop to such baseless name-calling of the biggest, cleanest, grass-roots citizens’ movement in over a century? Does he feel threatened by a few thousand ordinary citizens? The statements in his press release are an insult to the intelligence of Rhode Islanders.

Of course, to Mr. Kilmartin, the consummate insider politician, restoring our state’s government to fiscal responsibility and making it accountable to the citizens would seem like a radical, right-wing policy. It is true that the RI Tea Party is extremely opposed to the political machine that has dominated our state for decades and driven Rhode Island to the brink of bankruptcy.

It is true that the Tea Party wants to reduce taxes for everyone who pays, including millionaires, as well as for small businesses, sole proprietors, farmers, and wage earners throughout the state (and the nation, too).

It’s a necessary step towards restoring health to our economy by encouraging people to succeed in their careers and businesses and create new jobs.

Since you raised the point, Mr. Kilmartin, could you please produce a list of the millionaires in the RI Tea Party, together with a list of the millionaires in the General Assembly?

The RI Tea Party also wants to reverse the intrusive domination of the state government of nearly every aspect of our local affairs. Your property taxes are so high, and rising, largely due to the mandates forced on our municipalities and school districts by the Democrats in the General Assembly, on behalf of the special interests that sponsor them.

The political machine that has driven Rhode Island into the ditch is desperate to have Mr. Kilmartin as Attorney General. As we have seen with the present Attorney General’s administration over the past eight years, the machine needs a “friend” who will refuse to investigate or prosecute official corruption. Mr. Kilmartin has been a loyal cog in that machine for years.

The Tea Party believes that Rhode Island can have honest government that truly represents our state’s hard-working citizens. All we have to do is vote for the candidates who will represent us, and keep the machine politicians away from powerful posts

RI Health Insurance Rates Up Over 40%

The RI Tea Party is encouraging individuals and small business owners to attend a committee meeting on Tuesday, October 19th at 4:30pm, in the briefing room at the Department of Labor and Training , Pontiac Avenue in Cranston, held by Commissioner Chris Koller, RI Department of Health . Representatives from all 3 health insurers in RI will be in attendance.

“BCBS has recently sent out renewal notices of over 40% increases; the lucky ones received increases of approximately 20%”, states Lisa Blais, Board Member of the RI Tea Party. ” This is all while we are overtaxed and paying for rich health insurance benefits for our public sector employees. So much for having an advocate at the Department of Health. So much for having an advocate in Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, who claims she has done great things for health insurance coverage in RI. Instead small businesses and direct purchasers of health insurance are being forced to pay unacceptably high rate increases.” Ms. Blais cites an example of this outrageous premium hike. “How does going from $1140.00 per month for 2 healthy adults to just shy of $2 thousand sound to you?”

Come to the meeting and let your voices be heard!

You wake up to a new morning in Rhode Island in which the taxpayers have regained hope for economic justice and plentiful jobs as businesses plan to set up shop in our state. Our newly elected fiscally conservative representatives in the General Assembly and statewide office eagerly look forward to doing the work of the people, NOT the special interests.

* Give generously. All of our candidates need CASH! Even a small amount is appreciated.

ALERT: Deepwater and G.A. Business As Usual

The General Assembly has suspended House Rules – which means they won’t be posting the 48 hour notice for bills – and that means legislation will be coming fast and furious (and often passed in the wee hours of the night) as we near the end of this legislative session.

While the end of the session has an appeal on some levels, it also means that we don’t have much time to get information out to legislators regarding the Deepwater project so I am writing to you today to ask for your help in spreading the word.

Earlier today, Bill Short was on the Dan Yorke show discussing his testimony opposing the Deepwater Project. Mr. Short has extensive experience in the renewable energy market and is not opposed to renewable energy – he is opposed to this project simply because the cost of energy from this project is substantially more than from similar projects that produce the same renewable energy. The podcast should be available HERE soon.

Tomorrow, OSPRI Fellow on Regulatory and Environmental Affairs, Brian Bishop, and Bill Felkner, OSPRI President, will be on the Dan Yorke show with representatives from Deepwater Wind and the Governor to continue this debate. Please make time to listen to the show from 10:00 am to Noon (630 AM and 99.7 FM) and please notify your friends and legislators of this debate. Thank you for your help in educating the people of Rhode Island on the perils of this project. You can also find more information at http://www.nodeepwater.com.
