TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Rally | TODAY

Do Not Tread on Me…

Today is Tax Day. The last day that we must file our income tax reports with the government.

This week, we saw our General Assembly (GA) here in Rhode Island buckle under to union pressure. We clearly see that the GA, controlled by the Democrats, is run by the unions.

Two bills that would have provided relief to the taxpayer, required all government employees to have a fair healthcare co-pay, and allowed a checks and balance for School contracts were removed from consideration once the unions heard about them and met privately behind closed doors with Democrat leaders.

Quoting England’s former Prime Minister Margaret “Iron Lady” Thatcher: “Socialism is fine until you run out of the other guy’s money”. Well, we Rhode Island taxpayers, both personal and business, are broke and the GA needs to be held accountable.

The Conservative principles of lower taxes, smaller government, and self responsibility must be re-established here in Rhode Island.

Today, we must have our voices heard. We must let the GA know that they are being watched and we will not allow this brazen contempt for the Rhode Island taxpayer to continue. We must embrace political activism or we shall forever be sheep to the GA and unions. Apathy is something we Conservatives can no longer afford.

Today, we must join with the Tea Party folks and march on the Rhode Island State House. The Tea Party folks represent a re-awakening of America that scares the Liberals and Progressives. It is time for us to start taking back our government, to start controlling government waste and stop union greed.

This is the first step towards cleaning the General Assembly in November. If there ever was a time for you to be involved, TODAY is the day. NOW is the time.

The Conservatives have been called racists, hate mongers, and just plain evil. In reality, we Conservative Republicans and other conservatives are what made this nation once great: pro-American, pro-Constitutionalists. There will be those who will show up to discredit this movement, to be disruptive and to try and turn the rally into a media event that favors them rather than the truth. Do not give in to their taunting for our time is at hand. They know this and want to stop it. We must be resolved and un-wavering in our commitment and support for our ideals.

I will be at the State House today supporting my friends, neighbors, and fellow Rhode Islanders and I ask that you make time to do the same.

God’s speed and blessings to all of you, the State of Rhode Island, and indeed to the United States of America.

Conservatively yours,

Raymond T McKay
President, RIRA

P.S. – For those able to stay after the rally, we will be meeting up at the RIRA pub (our favorite) in downtown Providence.

Tea Party Activists in RI Plan Tax Day Protest

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Tea party activists say they hope to attract thousands of people to the Rhode Island Statehouse for a tax day rally to protest government spending and call for accountability in the General Assembly.

Among the speakers at Thursday afternoon’s planned rally are John Hannah, a Hall of Fame offensive lineman for the New England Patriots, and a commercial fisherman who’s concerned about the effect of government regulation on his livelihood.

Tea Party head Coleen Conley says the movement’s goal for the next several months is to get candidates elected to office. The movement is focusing on local and General Assembly seats.

About 2,000 people attended the tea party’s first tax day rally in Rhode Island last year…

Good Government Groups’ Press Conference | Monday

A dozen good government organizations schedule press conference on Monday, April 12th, 3pm, State House entrance on Smith Street to remind every General Assembly member that public sector union leadership does not corner the market on political endorsements. Real people have real votes. Representatives and senators will lose the people’s votes if they do not uphold their responsibility to pass a supplemental budget that is in the best interest of all taxpayers in this state.

We are at the State House on April 12th to counter the unions whose leadership has rallied their membership to be there as well, one big happy family as it were! If you stand with us then feel free to join with:

The Rhode island Tea Party; Ocean State Policy Research Institute; the East Providence Taxpayers Association; local Tea Party leaders of the East Bay Patriots, the Westerly Tea Party, the Warwick Tea Party, the RI Tea Party’s senior outreach committee, the South County Tea Party, Blackstone Valley Tea Party, the Cumberland/Lincoln Tea Party and the North Kingstown Taxpayers Association and Refoundri. We implore General Assembly members to do right by all taxpayers in Rhode Island by including in the supplemental budget a mandatory minimum of 15% health insurance cost share for all public sector employees and by stopping automatic annual cost of living increases for public sector retirees. We are in the hole. Stop dancing around the edges. Stop spending money we do not have.

We remind the General Assembly that the supplemental budget is meant to provide long-term structural solutions to years of over-spending. This does not mean raiding the rainy day fund. This does not mean re-mortgaging the public pension.

We implore the General Assembly to hold fast to Article 9 of the supplemental budget that requires the approval of a collective bargaining agreement between a school committee and representatives of teachers and/or other school employees by the city or town council(s) in which the school district is located. We implore the General Assembly to require at least one public hearing to review the collective bargaining agreement prior to city or town council approval.

And finally, we implore the General Assembly to accept the RI Association of School Committees’ budget amendment to require the president or chair of every City and Town Council to serve as a member of the school committee’s negotiating team for the collective bargaining agreements subject to city and town council approval.

We implore the General Assembly to hold fast to Article 16 to rein in cost of living increases.
The taxpayers don’t need anymore “pain to be spread around” as House Finance Chair Costantino said. We the people have endured “the pain” for too long.

Be at the Tax Day Tea Party Rally on Thursday, April 15th, 3-6pm, State House, mall side.

Foes of health-care overhaul lobby R.I. delegation

Doreen Costa, who is running State Representative in District 31, gets some great coverage in Thursday’s edition of the Providence Journal for her tireless work to stop this horrible “health care” bill. It’s clear that Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI) is still on the fence. Let’s do what we can to push him over to the right side of it. Call him: 202-225-2735 or 401-737-2982.

WASHINGTON — Doreen Costa spent her Sunday driving around Rhode Island in the pouring rain to petition her elected representatives against enactment of President Obama’s health-care initiative.

Perhaps fittingly, Rep. James R. Langevin was the only member of the state’s all-Democratic congressional delegation that Costa found at home. He invited them in and listened to their arguments against the sweeping overhaul of the medical system.

Even if her lobbying did not affect Langevin’s position, Costa’s pilgrimage through the downpour exemplified the kind of fervent pressure that citizens and activist groups have applied as the health-care legislation moves toward this weekend’s milestone vote.

“Congressman Langevin is our only hope here in Rhode Island,” said Costa, 45, of North Kingstown, a onetime Democrat who is now a member of the conservative Tea Party movement and a dedicated opponent of the health-care legislation — in part because of what she views as its weak defenses against taxpayer-subsidized abortion…

RI Tea Party: Time to Really Get In the Mix

First off, a hearty Congratulations to ALL of you who put pressure on Congressman Patrick Kennedy during this past year to heed the will of the people. You wrote, you called, you protested, you spent your own time and money to make your voices heard. And it paid off! Without a doubt, your messages finally got through. We wish Representative Kennedy well in his future endeavors. Now let’s get down to the business of making sure all of our elected leaders provide sound representation for the people of Rhode Island.

To achieve that goal, we are excited to announce that we have formed The People’s PAC of the RI Tea Party. The People’s PAC will allow regular folks to help fund campaigns and endorse candidates who represent US; not corporations, not unions, not lawyers, or any other special interest group. Just We the People. We are currently seeking a web designer who will help us set up a webpage for our PAC. If you are skilled in this area, please contact colleen [at] riteaparty [dot] com asap. We will soon send out a survey asking for your input on how we should vet prospective candidates. This is YOUR PAC, so we want to build our process around the principles which mean the most to you.

We’d also like to extend a warm welcome to our two new Board members, Lisa Blais, and Patti Girardi. Lisa has over 20 years of corporate human resource management, employee and labor relations specialist, collective bargaining expertise (negotiated private-sector labor contracts) corporate benefit negotiations, public education law and local practices expert, school and municipal contract analyst. She will be invaluable in our efforts to combat the influence of public sector unions in the Rhode island legislature. Patti earned an MBA from Harvard University and specializes in branding and marketing management. Her experience and knowledge will be vital to growing our organization and messaging to the electorate to effect much needed change.

Congratulations to several tea party members who have recently had letters to the editor published in Projo, including Angela Hoff, Alice Losasso, and Patti Girardi. Your efforts to consistently keep our voice in the media is absolutely critical to our mission and is greatly appreciated by all. If anyone has their writings published, be sure to let us know!

Finally, please note our next RI Tea Party Meeting will take place on March 10, 2010 at the Quonset O Club in North Kingstown. We will have a guest speaker (TBA) and focus on workshops for local tea party groups and other committees so that more people can become involved in the effort. Please bring your ideas!

Video: Steve Laffey Headlines RI Tea Party Meeting

Well over 300 people turned out tonight at the Quonset “O” Club in North Kingstown for what turned out to be a phenomenal motivational speech and presentation by former Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey on what needs to be done to fix Rhode Island.

This report and video is from ABC6:

As the race for RI Governor heats up, one person who said they weren’t interested was former Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey. However, Laffey recently unveiled a plan to fix Rhode Island, focusing on financial stability.

That, combined with the fact that Laffey is headlining an event for the RI Tea Party on Wednesday, got the rumor mill churning once again. Will he or won’t he be running for Governor?
