Jim DeMint: Irreconcilable Differences

Less than one hour into the President Obama’s health care summit the Senate’s most powerful Democrat reminded Republicans they can jam through a takeover of the health care system no matter what’s said during the next few hours of the meeting.

In his opening statement Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat said, “reconciliation isn’t something that’s never been done before.”

By saying this, Leader Reid has shown the irreconcilable difference between the Democrats and the American people who have already rejected their plans.

Americans have said loud and clear they do not want this bill. They don’t believe trillion dollar government takeovers will lower costs, they know it will explode our debt and reduce their freedom. They don’t want government bureaucrats making decisions for them in the most personal part of their lives.

But the Democrats continue to show they aren’t listening. They have been be planning to pass their health care takeover using a complicated Senate maneuver, called reconciliation. This procedure was originally created to resolve budget matters, not to push through a new complex entitlement program.

The summit was held under the pretense that the President would seriously listen to Republican ideas that enjoy popular support (solutions like buying insurance across state lines, tort reform, and tax equity for those who don’t get health coverage from their employer). But by refusing to take reconciliation off the table, President Obama and Democrats are turning a deaf ear to Americans.

A CNN poll released Wednesday found 73 percent of Americans want Washington to start over and begin working on an entirely new bill or stop work all together on health care reform…

And the Winner of ‘Best Use of Sheep in a Political Ad’ Goes To…

…Carly Fiorina’s campaign for U.S. Senate in California.

They posted an “unconventional” 3-1/2 minute web video on Wednesday which featured a frightening (demonic?) sheep with glowing red eyes, intended to mock her primary election rival Tom Campbell’s fiscal conservative credentials.

She also introduced a new acronym into the political lexicon: FCINO*
(Fiscal Conservative In Name Only)

If her intent was to get people talking about her campaign and the ad, as well as to get free cable news and blog media exposure, she obviously achieved both goals in spades. Whether or not it is actually an effective ad remains to be seen. It is weird, but will it actually work? The California primary is June 8th.

The ad was released on http://www.fcino.com .

President Obama Disrespects Supreme Court at SOTU

During his State of the Union Address tonight, President Obama committed a significant breach of protocol by openly criticizing the members of the United States Supreme Court in his presence for their recent decision agreeing that free speech rights apply to American corporations (as well as unions, for our liberal friends).

After Obama insulted the court members, Associate Justice Samuel Alito can be seen shaking his head and mouthing what appeared to be the words “not true,” as the Democrats around the Supreme Court members stood and applauded around them.

Tasteless.

Excerpt from Scott Brown Acceptence Speech

This is an excerpt from the end of Senator-elect Brown’s great acceptance speech:

“Fellow citizens, what happened in this election can happen all over America. We are witnesses, you and I, to the truth that ideals, hard work, and strength of heart can overcome any political machine. We ran a campaign never to be forgotten, and led a cause that deserved and received all that we could give it.

“And now, because of your independence, and your trust, I will hold for a time the seat once filled by patriots from John Quincy Adams to John F. Kennedy and his brother Ted. As I proudly take up the duty you have given me, I promise to do my best for Massachusetts and America every time the roll is called.

“I go to Washington as the representative of no faction or interest, answering only to my conscience and to the people. I’ve got a lot to learn in the Senate, but I know who I am and I know who I serve.

“I’m Scott Brown,

“I’m from Wrentham,

“I drive a truck, and I am nobody’s senator but yours.”

Brown for US Senate Election Night Reception | Tuesday

The Scott Brown for United States Senate election night reception / victory party will be at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, 50 Park Plaza at Arlington Street, in Boston. This is near the Public Garden and Boston Common.

The festivities will be held in the Imperial Ballroom from 8:30pm to 11:30pm. Although polls in Massachusetts close at 8:00pm, results are not likely to be available quickly. If using the “T” to get into Boston you will need to get onto the Green Line at some point. If you want to drive to the hotel, parking is available at the nearby Motor Mart Garage, but it is not cheap.

PS I’ve been told that there is a RIGOP and RIYR get-together in the works, to he held at Clarke’s, 20 Merchants Row at Faneuil Hall, sometime after 7:00 PM. This is less than a mile from the Park Plaza Hotel.

The Massachusetts Miracle

It all began in Massachusetts on April 19, 1775 with a shot that rang out around the world. A small band of brave Americans battled a vastly superior tyrannical government. These men declared to throw off such government and provide new guards for their security. The pundits claimed it could not be done. But against all odds the American people prevailed. Many called it a miracle and gave thanks for the gift of liberty.

Today our liberty is threatened by another tyrannical government. Thankfully, we have a way to defend it without resorting to arms. On January 19, 2010, Massachusetts will again become a battle line in the fight for freedom. The people will elect a new U.S. Senator. The choice could not be more clear.

A vote for Scott Brown is a vote for liberty. A vote for Martha Coakley is a vote for the Obama agenda. The pundits claim a Republican can’t be elected in Massachusetts. But they have repeatedly underestimated the American people. On January 19, expect a miracle.
